Second XV are champs
TITLE CROWN . . . Annan 2nd XV are enjoying a good season

ANNAN 2nd XV have been crowned champions of West Reserve Division Two (South).

Last Saturday the team travelled to Cumnock for their last league fixture this season.

And an Annan win coupled with an Ardrossan defeat meant the Violetbank side would clinch the title. Cumnock, however, needed to win to keep their Championship ambitions alive.

The match was played on astroturf, and conditions were ideal for running rugby.

In a fiercely contested match there were tries by Alex Jones, Adam Torbett (2) and Adam Dickson. Lex Stevenson notched three of the conversions.

Cumnock also scored two tries and a conversion, making the half time score 26-12 in favour of the visitors.

The second half continued in the same competitive manner.

The Annan try scorers were Stevenson, John Glendinning and Andrew Jancey. Torbett took over kicking duties after Stevenson was injured, adding two more conversions.

Cumnock scored another two tries and a conversion to make the final score Cumnock 24 Annan 45.

And, in a shock result, Ardrossan lost to bottom placed Carrick which meant Annan were crowned Champions of West Reserve Division 2 (South)!

The team’s next fixture is a friendly away to Ambleside RFC on February 8.

2nd XV: Forbes, Mackay, Taylor, Hodgson, Dickson, Kirk, Bruton, Le Vin, Jancey, Barlow, Glendinning, Conroy, Torbett, Jones, Stevenson (C), Shepherd.
