QUEEN of the South gaffer Wullie Gibson has vowed to continue working hard and try and achieve some much needed consistency from his side after they trounced Montrose 4-0 at Palmerston.
The manager switched up the training schedule last week as he aimed to get a reaction from his players.
And the shake up worked as Ruari Paton, Gavin Reilly and Josh Todd were all on-target to score for The Doonhamers.
Now the manager wants to try and stabilise the current turbulent form which has seen two wins, two defeats and 17 goals scored in the last four games involving the Dumfries side.
Gibson said: “There were difficult conversations through the week in training, boys have been in longer this week.
“We’ve done certain things that we maybe haven’t done before. “They’ve been home later, which I know with some of them it wasn’t too popular, but we felt it was needed.
“And then they came out and followed the game plan down to a tee and they made a very good Montrose side look ordinary.”
He added: “We are where we are down to inconsistency, it’s not because we’re a poor team as we’ve shown (against Montrose) how good a team we are.
“When we talk about consistency, we talk about back to back to back wins, we’ve now got to go and back that up.
“It was a long week, we’ve had a lot of criticism, both myself and the players, and rightly so. I said it was about a reaction, I wrote it on the board in capital letters, and that’s what it was all about.
“I thought the players went about their business very well, to score four goals at home, keep a clean sheet, and although we’ve lost Rico at the end, we’ve shown we can defend.
“We hope that the events of last week are behind us now.”
The manager did aim one criticism towards a small section of home fans who are happy to give it out when Queens are losing; but they remain quiet when winning.
Gibson said: “Even at 3-0 up and 4-0 up the fans were flat. If they are going to give the negativity out, a lot of them are quite happy to do that, then get behind the team when they’re putting a good performance on.
“I don’t aim that to a lot of people, the ones that are hearing what I’m saying know who they are.
“I’m working hard and I’ll keep working hard and so will the boys.”
This Saturday Gibson’s side face a tough test away to high-flying championship outfit Morton in the Scottish Cup Third Round.
Gibson said: “(Morton manager) Dougie Imrie has done a great job there.
“It’s going to be a tough game, we go to Cappielow and we’re not going to hide.
“I’m going to ask the players for the exact same performance.
“We’ll look to be in the hat for the next round because the Scottish Cup is a biggie.”
