Shambellie sessions

FRIDAY evening sessions will start again at Shambellie House later this month.

And the first event of 2025 will be a Burns talk on January 24 with playwright David Dewar, who will talk about Burns from a different perspective.

In his words “much of Burns life is romanticised, such as the ploughman poet loved by all rich and poor, and adored by women.”

Thus, David’s talk will focus on the life of Burns in Dumfriesshire, a story of contrasts: an excise officer and a revolutionary, a fondness for nature but a failed farmer, a lover of women, but with 13 children to four women was it lust? A man with great creative abilities, despite suffering from depression.Who was Robert Burns?

The sessions continue in February with music from LOKA; and then in March it’s Doug Carroll and Mary Barclay.
