Sharks break losing streak

The home side picked up a crucial two points with a 7-4 win against the Shropshire outfit in a playoff clash.

Solway struck first at 4:38 as Liam Danskin slotted the puck home to put the hosts ahead.

The hosts built up their offensive pressure, doubling the score to two via Callum Boyd following the link up play by Scott Henderson at 12:01.

However, the Tigers flipped momentum allowing Eric Henderson to slot the puck under Jordan Marr from close range at 18:42 to reduce the deficit late in the period.

Solway created a huge chance from the initial face-off in the second period, but John Dunbar lost his edge in the crease as Gardiner fed the puck to his teammate. However, Torran Anderson converted the back door tap-in to send Solway 3-1 clear.

Just seconds later, Caly Robertson extended the lead for Solway with a lovely top-corner strike.

The visitors amped up the pressure and the Sharks defence failed to shut down their threats, allowing David Thomson to put the tip past Marr.

And just seconds later, Scott McKenzie reduced the deficit back to a single goal after the rebound shot at 32:26.

Telford were eager to level the score inside the opening minute of the final frame, yet Marr made the stop to deny Thomson.

Sharks then capitalised on the powerplay through a one-timer by Kell Beattie.

Solway continued their attacking prowess and converted a play from their first line as Dunbar fired top shelf to send Sharks six goals clear. However, the Tigers found a way to answer back once more with a solo goal from Thomson at 51:12 after a rebound from the boards.

Late on Callum Boyd fired the empty netter home at 59:29, after Telford had pulled their netminder Brad Day, to secure Sharks a 7-4 win to break their eight-game losing streak.

Despite opening the scoring inside the first few minutes, the Sharks took a 4-2 loss to the fifth place Sheffield Steeldogs on Sunday.

Sharks dominated possession from the initial face-off and capitalised early as Scott Henderson fired wide of Curtis Warburton from the slot.

NIHL’s top goal scorer, Walker Sommer came off lucky with an awkward bounce off the plexi, catching Marr off-guard to equalise at 7:27.

A strike from Ivan Björkly-Nordström in the slot after the feed from Sam Cooper at 13:25 gave Sheffield an advantage on the scoreline.

Steeldogs applied the pressure early on Solway in the second, allowing Brady Doxey to land a strike high past Marr’s blocker from the left wing at 21:57 to extend the lead to 3-1 for Sheffield.

Solway’s first line generated a range of chances, but Warburton matched their efforts to maintain a 3-1 scoreline for Steeldogs.

The visitors finally capitalised on a man advantage at 48:26 thanks to a Beattie one-timer from point following the feed from Gardiner.

The visitors opted to pull Marr whilst play was in the Steeldogs zone, but Walker Sommer ended up firing a buzzer-beater goal for Sheffield, ensuring a 4-2 victory for his side.

Solway are back on home ice this weekend for a crucial double-header against the Romford Raiders.
