Ice Hockey UK’s (IHUK) plans for an Under-20s National League will take a step forward later this month, with a meeting taking place in Newcastle of clubs who wish to participate.
And Solway Sharks from Dumfries are one of the 14 teams who have signalled their desire to be a part of the league.
Former Great Britain head coach Paul Thompson has been heavily involved in the early stages of the formation of the U20 league, and he said: ìThis league will be a significant step forward for our future national-team players and young men entering the professional ranks.”
The meeting in Newcastle will decide the format and structure of the league and the dates the season will run from in 2015-16, and Paul Thompson will give a presentation on the benefits it will bring.
IHUK chairman Jim Anderson said: “These are very exciting times for the sport in the UK and the under-20s league will be of massive benefit for ice hockey at all levels.”
