Sheep petition up to 60,000

A PETITION to axe the annual Moffat Sheep Races has now reached nearly 60,000 signatures.

Earlier this month an online petition was created calling to cancel the August event on the grounds of ‘animal cruelty’.
The campaign was launched by protester Samantha Francis, whose efforts saw a similar event cancelled at a church fete in Cambridgeshire after she amassed 40,000 supporters, before turning her attention to the Moffat race.
Organised by the Moffat Promotions Group, the race is now in its fifth year and is due to take place on August 13.
Last week event organisers declared that while they always welcome feedback and respect Samantha’s view, the show will still go on next month.
Support for the petition has slowed, with less than an extra 10,000 people signing it in the past week.
