It was bought using cash generated through a year of fundraising at Russell Roof Tiles in Lochmaben.
And the firm got the honour of picking the much-needed bike’s name, which is in keeping with the charity’s tradition of naming their new bikes after women.
Russell Roof Tiles production director Bruce Laidlaw said: “We chose the name after a lengthy discussion with our generous staff, and also because we believe the name chosen is a fitting tribute to a lady who was such an influential local figure. Lady Devorgilla is synonymous with the area, and she is also the inspiration for the Devorgilla Bridge in Dumfries. She is said to look over the town.”
It brings the tally of bikes run by Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes up to seven and chairman David Hook said: “The new bike will allow us to improve crucial services for the health and well-being of the people of Dumfries and Galloway. It will aid our volunteers with transporting lifesaving blood, samples and medical equipment to hospitals across South West Scotland, including Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.”
