Shining a spotlight on the Glenkens

THE Glenkens Community and Arts Trust is being supported to create a trial project that will draw attention to the many positives of living and working in the Glenkens.

The scheme is in response to regional and local concerns about depopulation, and supports the Glenkens Community Action Plan goal of the Glenkens as a place ‘where people will want to live, to work, to bring up their families, and to grow old.’

They are planning a series of stories, photos and reels on social media to spotlight younger people who are currently living and working in the Glenkens.

Trust chief executive Helen Keron said: “Rural communities in Dumfries and Galloway are amazing places to live and work, despite some of the challenges, and we know that lots of people and families in the Glenkens are doing just that.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this funding from SOSE to allow us to assess the effect of highlighting people’s stories of living and working in this beautiful part of the country.”
