Shops on alert

RETAIL premises in Lockerbie have faced a spate of criminal activity.

Tesco and Home Bargains were both victims of shoplifting, and counterfeit bank notes were also circulated locally this week.
Karen Wilson, of Wilson’s the Post Office, raised the alarm on Tuesday after a customer attempted to pay with a ‘fake’ £20 note which she described as a ‘new polymer style note with silver hologram details attached’.
Karen also said it was ‘a lot thicker’ and also a slightly different colour and the holograms were added on.
Her warning was well received by the community, with many sharing the message.
Meanwhile, the shoplifting incidents took place last Wednesday afternoon.
First, a woman entered Home Bargains at 1.17 pm and removed numerous small food products, totalling around £22.
She has left the store without either paying or attempting to do so. Described as white, short, of a medium build, 30s, with long black hair in a ponytail, wearing grey joggers, a black jacket and white trainers.
And later, at 5.30 pm, two women entered Tesco and removed children’s clothing and pillows from an open display and left the store without paying or attempting to do so.
Enquiries have commenced into all incidents and information/witnesses are sought.
