Sides bidding for final shot

THERE are two tasty South of Scotland semi-final ties scheduled this weekend should the cold snap avert in time for football pitches across the region to thaw.

Two Haig Gordon Trophy semi-final ties are set to be played, with Nithsdale set to host Lochar Thistle at Lorimer Park and Uppers welcoming Newton Stewart to Lockerbie.

Elsewhere it is league business as Abbey Vale host Creetown, while Dalbeattie Star welcome Wigtown and Bladnoch and Stranraer entertain Lochmaben.

Last weekend the minus temperatures resulted in the postponement of all but one South fixture.

Dalbeattie Star and Creetown shared the spoils in a league clash which was played at the NWCC in Dumfries. Star took the lead in the 51st minute when a corner kick by Adam Jamieson was flapped into the net.

They doubled their lead five minutes later when Connor Potts curled the ball into the top left corner.

However, the Ferrytoun fought back with two late goals from Josh Rennie earning them a share of the spoils.
