TWO dancing sisters from Lochmaben have arrived in the USA for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Freya and Lola Callander are there to compete in two Highland dancing tournaments.

First up is the Atlantic International Open Championships in Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina from July 8-10; and then the USIR Championships, run by ScotDance USA in Madison, Wisconsin, from July 13-17.

They are both students at Lockerbie Academy and Lola is also this year’s Miss Lochmaben.

The girls began their competitive journey aged four and haven’t looked back. Proud mum Kelly, herself a championship dancer, said: “They live for the competitive circuit.

“Nobody from Annandale and Eskdale has ever travelled to the US to compete in such high level prestigious championships for Highland dance. They will promote our region in America through the social events at the Championships, hopefully bringing our lovely area a title home.”
