Skelton signs up for Carlisle

CARLISLE United have annouced the appointment of Gavin Skelton as Steven Pressley’s new number two as they prepare for next season.

Skelton, 38, above, steps into this role as United recently parted company with Pressley’s former assistants Tommy Wright and Paul Murray, as the Blues failed to reach the League Two Play-Offs. The Carlisle born former player and now coach has a big association with teams across the region after playing for Annan, Gretna and Queen of the South during his 20 year career. It was his time at Gretna in which he was remembered so fondly as he made 200 appearances for the Anvils between 2001 to 2008, which included playing in the 2006 Scottish Cup Final against Hearts of Midlothian. Skelton’s experience of coaching at a number of levels, including acting as player-manager for Queen of the South during April to November 2016, will be key as the Cumbrians seek to achieve promotion next campaign.
