A COLLECTION of rare bravery medals awarded to a Dumfries soldier have sold at auction for £140k this week.

Among the seven was the outstanding ‘Iraq 2003’ CGC (Conspicuous Gallantry Cross), and Corporal, later Warrant Officer Class 2, Shaun Garry Jardine of the King’s Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB) remains the only person in a Scottish regiment to receive the honour.

Shaun was given the award for his quick-thinking actions in 2003 when he was under heavy fire in the Maysan Province.

His collection was placed under the hammer by Dix Noonan Webb in their auction of Orders, Decorations, Medals and Militaria on Wednesday.

It was bought over the telephone by a private collector of British gallantry awards.
