Victoria Barr, 53, runs The Moffat Perfume Company from a converted house in Frenchland Drive.
The company launched in 2018, after two years of development for flagship scent ‘Flùr Alba’.
Victoria, or Vicki as she is known locally, started her working life as an optician.
But three children later she decided to swap lenses for lilies and started working with flowers and plants before turning her attention to perfume.
She said: “I have loved perfume since I was given a bottle as a gift on my 18th birthday.
“When I was on holiday on Tiree some years ago I bought a local Hebridean perfume and later came to realise that there are very few Scottish perfume companies.”
So she set about making her own unique scent and The Moffat Perfume Company was born.
And while the perfume’s oils aren’t sourced locally, Vicki has assured Moffat is still at the heart of the company’s first product.
She said: “Perfume oils are from all round the world, they have to have rigorous safety testing and there are a lot of regulations so it is not easy to use local ingredients but the perfume is inspired by Scotland and invented in Moffat.”
Flùr Alba is currently stocked in 18 shops from Orkney to Carlisle but Vicki has high hopes for the future.
She said: “I hope to continue building up shops throughout Scotland and would like to stock it in London and as widely as possible. Recently I’ve started an online shop too.
“I also hope to create another perfume to add to the range.”
Vicki hopes to expand the business, one day taking on staff.
She said: “I appreciate the support of local people, friends and family for all the assistance I have been given.”
