GOLD MEDAL . . . Aaron Mckinnel with coaches Terry Bruton and Micky Warbeck

The Annan club came away with two gold and two silver medals to show for their efforts after two weekends of competitive action.

Leon Potts, Kyle McGregor, Euan Thorburn, Aidan Scott, Aaron Mckinnel and Ben Kirkpatrick all represented the club at Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

There were 735 entries from 110 clubs all over Scotland making the event the largest championship in the country and one of the biggest in Europe.

Kyle became a two time champion in class A and B after winning the competition for a second time.

And Aaron also claimed gold in the final after defeating his opponent from Kingdom Boxing Club.

Head coach Terry Bruton said: “Kyle keeps his record intact at 7-0, it was a solid performance by him.

“Aaron had been beaten last championship by the same boxer on a split decision. But we got our redemption as we were unanimously winners with a classy performance.

“Ben was so unlucky, he had boxed three times giving us brilliant performances, and going into final he was incredible.

“But for some very strange decision we never got the decision and we were beat on a split.

“Aidan Scott beat the lad from Priestfield last season, but after a very tough and close contest the judges went in favour of the Priestfield lad on a split.

“Leon and Euan put on very brave and solid performances but it wasn’t enough to get the decision.

“As head coach I couldn’t be more proud of all our boxers who did everything we asked of them, they are true warriors, and for our club coaches who committed their time and effort, thank you.

“It was also very nice to hear other clubs, judges and refs tell you how good your boxers are, only getting beat on splits. Holding our own with big well established boxing clubs. It’s amazing.”
