Special guests to feature at RoM

ANNAN Riding of the Marches will welcome special guests from Australia to take part in this year’s big day on July 1.

Senior members from Knox Grammar School Pipe Band, above, have confirmed their attendance at RoM 2023 and will travel to Annan to play in the parade, take part in the competition and join massed bands along the High Street.

Annan RoM convenor Stuart Thompson said: “We are honoured and delighted they have confirmed their attendance.

“We look forward to welcoming them to our Royal Burgh in July.”

Located in Wahroonga, on Sydney’s North Shore, Australia, Knox Grammar School is a leading independent Uniting Church school. Their pipe band was established in 1946 and today consists of 275 members aged 8 to 18 years old,

The band plays at commemorative events and school functions such as the Anzac Day Parade in Sydney and participates in competitions across Australia.

Every three years senior members travel to the UK for three weeks to compete in various championships and perform at prominent locations.

This year, 49 students in two competition bands are participating in the tour, which will see them travel to Scotland, England and Belgium. They will compete at the European Pipe Band Championships in Aberdeen, the Annan Riding of the Marches and the Corby Highland Games. They will also be performing in Stirling, Edinburgh, and Ypres.
