Staff set out to shed pounds for charity

A NEW year challenge will see 20 staff members at a Lochmaben firm aim to lose 20 stone between them.

The workers at Russell Roof Tiles are starting 2023 with a sponsored charity weight loss. It kicked off on January 3 and will run until March 3, with an ambitious combined 20 stone loss target and the aim to raise £2000.

Each person taking part has signed up to agree to lose a minimum of a stone and pledged £100, which will be matched by their employers.

Bosses at the company want to focus this year’s weight loss challenge on health and wellbeing and are keen to support their team in carrying out a sensible, controlled, and safe weight loss and help motive them to lose any extra festive weight, with a whole-body approach in mind.

Charity weight loss challenges have taken place on site in previous years and the 2023 cohort hope to replicate those successes to encourage wellbeing and overall fitness among the team. And the money raised will go towards helping local communities as part of the Russell Roof Tiles Give for Good programme, which raised over £55,000 in 2022.

Managing director Andrew Hayward, who is himself taking part in the initiative, said: “This is the perfect team challenge to not only support worthy, local causes but also to encourage anyone that’s after shedding a few of those Christmas pounds that may have crept on over the winter.

“We’re excited to continue our charity efforts into the new year, and fundraise through more events that we’re soon to announce, and support our local community even more.”
