Storm aftermath

TWO schools in the region are closed today after their electricity supply was knocked out by Storm Ali.

Ae and Amisfield primaries are both shut as they have no heating, lights phones and cooking facilities.

They are both expected to reopen tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a clean up operation is underway following yesterday’s wild weather, with winds of up to 75 mph.

Streets in the centre of Dumfries had to be closed because of debris flying off roofs, trains and ferries were cancelled, the A75 and M74 were both closed after incidents, dozens of minor roads were blocked by falling trees, branches and power lines, and communities including Eastriggs, Gretna, Eaglesfield and Waterbeck were left without electricity for several hours.

Full story in this week’s papers.
