Storm Francis hits region

FLOODING has been reported on some of the region's roads after a day of wild weather due to Storm Francis.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office for Dumfries and Galloway and is in place until early tomorrow (Weds).

And this afternoon police closed the B724 at Cummertrees due to flooding, asking drivers to avoid the area.

Motorists have also shared warnings on social media about the A709 between Lockerbie and Lochmaben, said to be ‘heavily flooded’, while the road at Shillahill Bridge is also starting to flood.

Meanwhile, drivers on the M74 are being advised to use caution due to surface water affecting driving conditions.

A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Police Division said: “The weather warning is in place until 6 am Wednesday.

“Please allow extra time for journeys and drive according to the conditions.”
