DUMFRIES’ dancing sisters brought some Strictly glamour to the Easterbrook Hall at the weekend.
Twins Jayd and Jenna Flager are professional dancers from Dumfries and have worked all over the world dancing on cruise ships.
After being released from their cruise contracts at the start of the pandemic, they set up the town’s chapter of Fit Steps in September 2020, which is a ballroom and latin fitness class developed by Strictly Come Dancing Professionals Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe.
It sees Jenna and Jayd hosting weekly classes at venues in Dumfries, but the girls wanted to bring a big more sparkle to the town, as Jayd told the Dumfries Courier: “Since we’ve been a part of Fit Steps we’ve had the chance to attend and help demonstrate in masterclasses in Blackpool and Glasgow hosted by Ian and we wanted to bring that to Dumfries, because why should our ladies miss out because they live in a small town.
“So we arranged for Ian to come to the Easterbrook last weekend and lead a masterclass and it was a huge success. We had about 60 people there and Ian did a six-step workshop, a little Q and A and we had a photo opp at the end, it was fab. Jenna and I even got up on stage and did a little show dance for everyone.
“We’re not that well-known in Dumfries but we still wanted to bring this wonderful experience to town. It was a great succes and we’re so pleased that Ian came, and it’s a big deal because he’s a bit of a celebrity. People have been coming into our regular classes this week still on cloud nine and that’s great to see because we love to dance and we love to teach.”
Jenna and Jayd are now looking forward to hosting their next workshop event later this spring, for more details you can find Fit Steps Dumfries on Facebook.
