But residents and businesses will need to wait until July to see the whole area finally finished.
Work on the final phase of the regeneration was set to begin earlier this month but material being delivered from Portugal did not arrive on time, meaning plans were put on hold.
A Dumfries and Galloway Council officer this week informed councillors, directors and senior officials that every effort was being made to minimise disruption to the gala.
In the email he explained the works will begin on Monday and he said: “The works will be undertaken in two phases and will be carried out by Enterprising DG.
“The first phase to be constructed will be completion of the short section of footway on the west of High Street between Café 91 and the traffic signals.”
Work will cease on Friday June 1 and the spokesman added: “We will then stand down for two weeks to allow Lockerbie Gala celebrations to take place.”
The second phase, from Cameron Close to the traffic signals, will recommence Monday June 18 and is expected to take four to five weeks.
Discussing possible disruption, the official said: “During the works there will be a need to suspend car parking within the extent of the works area to allow safe working zones for the workforce; however we will try to keep this to a minimum where possible.
“There will also be a requirement to temporarily relocate the bus stops on both sides of High Street as works progress. Any temporary relocation of the bus stop will be accommodated within the works area.
“During the construction works we will work closely with any affected businesses and will ensure that all reasonable measures are undertaken to minimise disruption.”
The news of a final completion of the works, which began in 2013, has been welcomed.
Annandale North councillor Adam Wilson said: “After many years I am pleased to see that the works on Lockerbie High Street are set to be complete by summer.
“Lockerbie should never have had to wait this long for works to be completed.
“But I would like to thank the council for taking Lockerbie Gala into consideration for planning the timings of the work and for ensuring that businesses are kept fully up to date.”
A Gala spokeswoman added: “While it’s good to hear the high street is finally set to be finished, it’s disappointing that once again Lockerbie Gala’s festivities will boast a half finished high street.<\!p>
“Fingers crossed that by 2019 we’ll finally have a high street to be proud of.”
