DUMFRIES and Galloway Council has secured £250,000 to go toward summer fun for youngsters across the region.
The fresh funding was announced this week and the council is urging local third sector organisations and businesses capable of running activities for primary 1 to S6 pupils over the school holidays to apply.
It is hoped that the money will allow a wide range of sessions to be run, from sport to music to cooking and science.
Furthermore, the local authority is keen to offer activities for younger people who may otherwise struggle to access such experiences.
Organisations from any part of Dumfries and Galloway are eligible to apply for the funding, which must be used to provide free activities throughout the whole summer holidays from the period of Saturday, June 26 until Wednesday, August 18.
Applications are open now and the closing date for submission of organisations’ completed applications is 8 am on Monday, May 31.
Commenting, Councillor Andy Ferguson said: “This funding opportunity for our third sector partners and local businesses continues our commitment as a local authority to ensure that our communities recover from the effects of the pandemic.
“Our council is committed to supporting all of our children and young people who have been affected by the pandemic where they were isolated from the friends and missed out on play and social activities which are vital to their physical and mental wellbeing.
“This fund will ensure that they can have a wonderful summer holiday with their friends and access free events and activities.”
