Super seven for Gretna

Gretna FC 2008 7-2 Edinburgh University

GRETNA burst out of the traps, however Edinburgh took the lead in the game when Lewis Hendry found the net for the students against the run of play.

But five goals in 12 minutes from the home side turned the game completely on it’s head and Gretna went on to dominate until the final whistle. They even had chances to increase the scoreline further.

The Gretna goals came from Russell Currie who hit four for the home side, while Jack Dickinson, Kerr Fraser and Dan Carmichael all got in on the act.

Manager Stephen Hatfield said: “I think it was a very good performance overall.

“Still a few things that we need to improve on, but I’m pleased to get the three points.

“Today’s result will mean very little if we don’t kick on and follow it up over the next couple of weeks.”

The Raydale side also announced the signing of Calum Helm this week from Edinburgh United.

Hatfield said: “It’s one we are very happy to have got over the line. I’m sure Calum’s quality will shine through over the coming weeks and months.”

This Saturday Celtic B visit Raydale Park and a large crowd is expected as Gretna look to build upon the first win of the season.
