Supermarket launch draws queues for prize giveaway

LARGE queues formed outside a new supermarket in Annan on Thursday morning — as Aldi opened its doors with a special giveaway.

The first 100 lucky customers to enter the Butts Street store received golden envelopes revealing prizes.
And with people having queued for hours, the first person through the doors was Karen McRobert from Annan, picking up a 32″ TV.
Other prizes up for grab included sat-navs and DAB radios.
In addition to the opening day ‘golden ticket’ giveaway, Aldi will be offering samples of Scottish products for customers to try both today and tomorrow, with participating suppliers including Quality Meat Scotland, Arla and Halls.
Annan’s 1st Dumfriesshire Scout Group were on hand to carry out the official ribbon cutting at the store, and were presented by a cheque from Aldi for £250.
The store occupies a two-acre site which was previously home to Co-operative Foods store.
And it has created about 25 new jobs, providing a range of opportunities for local people.
