A HAUL of 280 cannabis plants was discovered in a car on the motorway near Lockerbie on Monday morning.
Police on patrol made the find after they stopped to assist a motorist on the A74 (M), about a mile south of junction 17.
The driver had pulled his grey BMW 5 Series onto the hard shoulder and was making a temporary repair to his wiper blades when officers turned up at about 11 am.
They detected a smell of cannabis within the vehicle and a search revealed 280 plants worth around £1400.
A 43-year-old man from Doncaster was arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.
Commenting, Sergeant David Kerr said: “Drugs cause misery in our communities and Police Scotland is determined to bring those responsible for the supply of illegal substances to justice.”
