OVER 300 riders have set off across the region for the annual Doddie’s Grand Tour.
And among the pack are 24 members of the Moffat Rugby Club – Cammy Little, Gary Smith, Martin Armstrong, Hammy McGregor, Matty Crombie, Julie Boa, Ross Currie, Chris Collins, Kenny Carruthers, Derrick Dalling, Ben Few, Max Douglas, Craig Hewitson, Owen Jones, Craig Currie, Scott Galloway, Johnny Little, Ross McCrosson, Shaun Jardine, Sean O’Neil, Ally Cameron and Sean O’Brien are all joining former internationalist Rob Wainwright across the four day, 700-mile route.
After beginning in Stranraer on Wednesday, the tour aims to raise awareness and funds for the motor neurone ‘My name’5 Doddie Foundation’. Their route so far has taken them through Wigtown, Newton Stewart, Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Langholm and Peebles.
This morning all the teams will be leaving Peebles and heading to Moffat for a pit-stop in the early morning; then along the A76 past Sanquhar and on the Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen and Dundee reaching Edinburgh on Saturday.
So far the Moffat outfit have raised over £5000 for the cause, and organiser Cammy Little is grateful for the all support the team have received so far. He said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone for their support so far, our sponsors, everyone who has parted with a penny, our support crew and all our family and friends who are making it possible.
“If you are out and about in the evening, you will notice Moffat Academy have lit the school in Doddie’5 colours which we really appreciate.”
