Danielle Grierson, 19, from Gretna, and Megan Masterton, 16, from Annan, took part in a skydive at Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancaster on June 3 for JDRF —acharity for people with diabetes.
The duo had good weather on the day, making the jump seem less daunting. And after some persuasion from their instructors they decided that they would not jump from the standard 11,000 feet but instead upgrade to 15,000 feet, which is the highest skydive in Britain.
Danielle said: “It was the most amazing and exhilarating experience of my life, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
“It’s sort of difficult to describe jumping out of the plane. “You are just completely weightless and it was sort of peaceful in a weird sense. “It didn’t feel like you were plummeting towards the ground at 120 mph.”
Megan said: “It was awesome but I thought I was never going to reach the ground.
“However,I would 110 per cent do it again”
The charity had a special meaning for the pair.
Danielle’s sister and Megan’s friend Chloe Grierson was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of six.
Now 11 years on, Chloe said: “It means so much that they were willing to risk their lives in order to raise so much money for a charity that is not only close to my heart but millions of others around the world.
“The condition affects my everyday life because I have to constantly think of what I’m eating, when I’m eating and what I’m doing in general cause everything is affects my blood sugar level.
“The money raised will go directly to JDRF in order to fund for research which will help to find a cure for not just me but every type one diabetic in the world.”
