Michal Dziuda, from Leeds, who had never been in trouble before and was said to be regarded as a talented and respected sportsman, this week admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug near Beattock in January last year.
Dumfries Sheriff Court was told that Dziuda did not take drugs himself and had been forcibly threatened to carry the drugs to repay a debt after getting into money difficulties.
Sheriff Brian Mohan said that normally the offence would result in a prison sentence, but because of Dziudas’s previously good record he would deal with the matter through a community payback order with conditions of supervision for 12 months and 300 hours unpaid work.
