Region crowned best at Burns
YOUNG Burnsians did the region proud and retained their title at the National Schools Burns Competition last week.
Dumfries and Galloway was represented by the secondary gold and silver medallists from the regional competition held in February.
They returned to St Joseph’s College to go up against others from around Scotland at the event run by the Robert Burns World Federation.
On home ground, Dumfries and Galloway put in an extremely strong performance, winning the best recitation and instrumental team prizes and were crowned overall champions.
In addition, individual competitors won an impressive haul of cups and medals as well.
DGBA schools competition convener Fiona Evans said: “We are extremely proud of all our young people who took part in the competition. They put in a sterling effort and their performances were all impressive.
“Every competitor’s scores are counted, so they all contributed towards us winning the team prizes and the overall best team prize. They all supported each other and showed an excellent attitude.
“We are now looking forward to the National Primary competition on June 14.”
Fiona also thanked the committee and volunteers from Dumfries and Galloway who supported the event, and Provost Maureen Johnstone for presenting the trophies.
