Third walker on road to recovery

HILLWALKER Bobby Thomson will be home soon, say family.

The family of the recovering hillwalker, who was rescued in the hills near Durisdeer on Wednesday, have revealed he is on the mend and they hope to have him home soon.

Mr Thomson, 64, was the youngest of a trio of hillwalkers who became lost in the Durisdeer area.

The group, who began their walk on Tuesday afternoon, lost their way and a wide scale search ensued on Tuesday night.

Bad weather hampered the search and the trio were not discovered until lunch time on Wednesday afternoon.

They were air lifted to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary but Mr Thomson’s friends and walking companions George Crosbie, 73, and Jeffrey Stewart, 74, both passed away.

Mr Thomson’s family statement reads: “Bobby Thomson is recovering well in hospital and hopes to be home soon.

“Our family would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the families of George and Geoff following this tragedy.

“We are very grateful to all the services that were involved in the search and rescue and would like to thank them and the staff at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for all their efforts.”
