PROCEEDINGS for the South of Scotland League match at New King Edward Park on Saturday between Mid Annandale and Creetown started with both sides showing their respects in the form of a minutes silence for Poppy Atkinson and Harry Drysdale.
Poppy was a ten-year-old budding footballer who died in a tragic incident on a Kendal sports pitch last Wednesday.
And 93-year-old Harry was honorary president of Wigtown and Bladnoch who recently passed away after 70 years unstinting service to his club.
Mids made a reasonable start to the match, making several early chances, but the roof fell in when a couple of defensive errors in a three minute spell just before the 20 minute mark found the home side two down.
All credit to the Lockerbie lads, however, as they immediately clawed their way back into the match when Scott Norman dispatched a Luke Hammond corner to reduce the deficit.
Ten minutes later Mids had a great chance to equalise but Hammond had his penalty kick saved low down by the Ferrytoun goalkeeper. Mids were still well in the game until first half injury time when another defensive blunder allowed Creetown to go in at the break 3-1 up.
Second half goals from Creetown on 57, 62 and 66 minutes were only countered by a further strike from Norman which made the final score 6-2 to Creetown.
The Mids tried manfully but were second best all over the park to a side who are now joint top of the league.
Drew Jackson was deservedly adjudged man of the match for the Lockerbie side who are back on home turf next week for a league match against near neighbours Upper Annandale.
Over at Wilson Park Upper Annandale lost 3-0 to title favourites Lochar Thistle.
The hosts went in at the break with a 1-0 lead, although, the Moffat side had good chances. They hit the post and forced a goal-line clearance.
But Lochar added two more goals in the second period to put the game beyond doubt in Heathhall.
