WHEN we start a new year one question I’m always being asked is what are the tips and insights to market trends in the antiques and collectibles market for the year ahead?
There are many areas which I think offer scope for selling that you may find in your home that could potentially unlock a windfall for you.
So, here are my top tips for items that may be forgotten or unloved that help you raise some money in 2025.
* The Oriental market remains strong with demand for both Chinese and Japanese ceramics, bronzes, jades, carvings etc. This market can be fickle and quality is always the key.
* Wristwatches and pocket watches: we are all familiar with the luxury brands like Rolex and Omega but other brands are creeping up like Seiko, Roamer Tag Huer etc. Whilst not in the top tier, these brands have been steady climbing in price. Gold pocket watches also have been racing up in value with decent examples ideally in 18 carat gold fetching very strong prices.
* Medals are keeping pace with good groups with more varied medals achieving good prices.
* For silver items, the market in the last 12 months has steadily increased, partly due to strong bullion prices and more interest in collectible silver across the board
* Antique jewellery is always a strong contender and continues to do well, particularly Edwardian, Art Nouveau and Deco pieces also now finding a niche items from the 1960s-70s in precious metals.
* And finally gold, the market continues to climb due to uncertainty in both financial markets and world politics, with gold prices rising there’s never been a better time to sell.
