Top job for Russell

A FAMILIAR name has been appointed as the new Annan Athletic chairman.

Former MP Russell Brown, pictured left, makes the step up from vice chairman following the club’s recent AGM.

He replaces Philip Jones who has decided to take on the role of club secretary.

Philip’s role as chairman is now written into the history books of the club and will be forever remembered as the first to lead the club to a SPFL promotion.

In his new position, Philip replaces long-serving club secretary Alan Irving. After over 50 years of service, Alan took the difficult decision to step down from his position on the board. However, he has accepted the position of life president and will continue his long standing association with the club.

Philip said: “It has been a privilege to be chairman of the club but I feel making the move to secretary is logistical and makes more sense.

“I have been doing the secretary role alongside being chairman since Alan’s illness so I’m used to the role.

“We’re all in this together and Russell is more than capable in the chairman’s role.”

Elsewhere, long standing board member Stephen Bryson has been named vice chairman, while Steven Binnie and Alison Quigley have been appointed to the club’s board of directors.

A club spokesman said: “The club would like to wish all the board members the very best in their new roles as we look to establish ourselves in League One, for this season and beyond.”
