Top job for Scott

A DUMFRIESSHIRE man has been appointed as general manager of a busy Cumbrian hotel.

Scott MacGregor, from Annan, has been promoted to the top job at the newly restyled The Fleece at Ruleholm.

His hospitality career started aged 16 in Annan when he worked at the Corner House Hotel and Pagani’s, then moving to the Central Plaza in Carlisle.

Scott, right, gained a HND in hospitality management at Dumfries College and worked his way up the ranks at the Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry. He also had spells in Edinburgh and Shap.

He said: “The opportunity came up at The Fleece during lockdown as wedding and events manager, and I jumped at the chance as The Fleece was completely new. The day I started there was no roof or windows in place.

“Working alongside the owners and other colleagues, producing ideas, standards, recruitment, it was such an experience to be involved with in the start. Director David Corkill then gave me the opportunity to be the general manager of this magnificent hotel.”

Looking ahead, Scott said: “We have a number of projects coming up next year which are currently in the planning stage, and I’m very much looking forward to working with the management team and all the staff, to make The Fleece the destination for many people.”
