A TREE located in the region has been shortlisted in the Woodland Trust's Tree of the Year competition.

The famous hawthorn at Kippford, described as “lonesome but fiercely proud”, is a 2021 finalist.

The mature specimen guards the coastline and is well photographed by locals and visitors alike.

To vote, go online to woodlandtrust.org.uk by midday on December 13. The winner will go forward to the contest for European Tree of the Year 2022
