THE SCFA Challenge Cup Quarter Final found the Mids up the A74 at Strathclyde Park on Saturday to face Lowland League powerhouses, Caledonian Braves.
A youthful Lockerbie side found themselves under instant pressure from their more illustrious tier five opponents.
Credit to the Lockerbie lads who were able to hang on at 0-0 until the 29th minute when the Braves centre half lost his marker at a corner to head in at the back post.
After this, Mids went on to make a few chances of their own and survived a Braves penalty miss before succumbing to a late strike in the last minute of the first half to turn around two down at the break.
The second half saw a poor start from the visiting side and they soon conceded a further three goals through a combination of bad luck, some sloppy defensive play and the Braves’ enterprising high press strategy.
Before the end Caledonian ran in another four goals to underline their class and show why they are still in contention for the prestigious Lowland League title behind East Kilbride and Celtic B.
At no time did the Lockerbie side drop their heads and every man out there put in an exceptional shift against top class opposition, a shift which everyone of them can be extremely proud.
The Mids man of the match this week was captain Luke Hammond who attempted to drive his team forward whenever possible.
With no game this Saturday, Mids are back in South League action on Tuesday evening when they entertain joint league leaders Stranraer at Lockerbie. Kick off is at 7.45 pm.
