Towns to get more EV chargers

NEW electric vehicle chargepoints are to be installed in Lockerbie and Moffat.

Eight bays containing four 7kw dual chargepoints will be introduced at Station Road Car Park in Moffat for public use.

Installation work will commence from Monday October 3 and will last for up to three weeks.

And five 7kw dual chargepoints with ten bays are also earmarked for the McJerrow Car Park in Lockerbie.

Lotus Electrical Ltd and SPEN are contracted to carry out the work in both locations on behalf of Dumfries and Galloway Council.

They hope to keep any inconvenience to a minimum for all local residents, visitors and nearby businesses. The project is 75 per cent funded by the Department for Transport UK Government and the remaining amount from Dumfries and Galloway Council.

It will cost motorists 25p per kilowatt to charge their vehicle with a £1.50 minimum charge. However, officials have warned that prices are under review due to the increase in energy costs.
