Tributes paid to well-loved footy coach

TRIBUTES have been paid to beloved Queen of the South Ladies coach Alastair Barron, who has died at the age of 73.

Having contributed to over seven years at Queen of the South Ladies and Girls, Alastair attended right up to the day of his passing.

And the club made a statement hailing the impact Alastair had.

It read: “His commitment to the club, and ladies team particularly, was nothing short of admirable.

“Most of all, he was a true gentleman. His genuine, endearing personality and witty remarks made him a huge figure in our close knit football family.

“We will remember him as our loving coach, who despite beaming with pride for QoS Ladies, always turned up to training with his Greenock Morton hat on.

“Our ladies and coaches are all heartbroken. The team will not be the same without him.

“Everyone at the club send their deepest condolences to Alastair’s wife Nickie and children Kirsty, Jennifer, Alex and Olivia.

“You were one in a million Alastair, thank you for everything.”
