Triple fatality on A74

THREE men have died hours apart in two seperate crashes on the M74 this week.

At around 6.15 am today, Thursday May 2, a two vehicle road traffic collision happened on the northbound carriageway of the A74(M) between Junctions 20 and 21.

An articulated lorry and a van were in collision.

As a result, the 57-year-old male driver of the van and his 17-year-old male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the articulated lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed to allow for a full crash scene investigation to take place and diversions were put in place, however is now fully open again.

The collision happened less than 12 hours after a 22-year-old local man died last night in a one vehicle road traffic collision that happened on the southbound carriageway of the A74(M) road near to Ecclefechan involving his Ford Fiesta car.

An 18-year-old male passenger was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, and two female passengers, aged 16 and 19 were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with what are described as serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
