Ukraine solidarity push

A COUNCILLOR is calling on his colleagues to show further support to the Ukrainian people in the aftermath of US involvement in the war.

Mid and Upper Nithsdale Councillor Tony Berretti wants Dumfries and Galloway Council to urge the UK and Scottish Governments to show solidarity with Ukraine.

And he has tabled a motion on the matter, which will be heard, and decided on, this Thursday.

Cllr Berretti wrote: “Dumfries and Galloway Council condemns statements made by President Trump that Ukraine is the aggressor in this conflict and notes, with dismay, the recent events in the United States, that prompted the responses of support from European leaders and the First Minister of Scotland.

“Dumfries and Galloway Council urges the Scottish Government to continue its unwavering support for displaced Ukrainians, and to provide reassurances to them during this worrying time of uncertainty.

“Dumfries and Galloway Council urges the UK Government to be steadfast in its commitment to supporting Ukraine, in partnership with Europe.”
