ANNAN Academy was on lockdown for 40 minutes this afternoon after an unknown woman was walking about the school.
Police attended the academy at around 3.15 pm, and the incident was resolved minutes later.
Parents received a text at around the same time of the police's arrival which said: "The school is in lockdown, this is not a drill. Do not phone the school office unless it is an emergency."
A second notification then stated the lockdown had finished and the school day would be ending as normal, before 3.30 pm.
A Dumfries and Galloway Council spokesman said: "There was a lockdown within Annan Academy today (November 12) of around 40 minutes.
"The incident was as a precaution as there was an unknown adult walking about inside the school this afternoon.
"She was seen at lunchtime and as she was unknown and her intentions were unknown a lockdown was called and police called as a precaution.
"The matter was resolved and children and staff left school as normal at the end of the school day."
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
