Uppers take derby honours

UPPERS claimed three points on derby day at New King Edward Park on Saturday as they defeated Mid Annandale 3-0 in the South of Scotland League.

For the second week running in Lockerbie, Mids lost a very early goal. And it was Santos who found the net for the Moffat side.

This put the Lockerbie outfit up against it for 20 minutes or so, with the pace of the Moffat frontline causing them to defend deeply and desperately at times.

Things were just beginning to take an upturn for the Mids when Ben Robson was unluckily adjudged to be last man and received a straight red for a tackle in a wide area.

The Mids defended well after this but half time found them still a goal down.

The second half saw a spirited effort from the Lockerbie side and they were unlucky when Denver Milligan headed just over the bar.

After this, however, the men from Moffat stepped up a gear and, with the ten men tiring, it was no surprise when Uppers added two more through Tambwe and Amponsah before the end to gain a well deserved victory.

Mids can take comfort from a much improved performance against their near neighbours compared to the last time they were in Lockerbie three weeks ago and considering they were down to ten men for 50 minutes.

Uppers’ central defender Tyler Bowman was the man of the match for the away side, while Aaron Bell was deservedly awarded the honour for Mid Annandale.

Elsewhere, Lochmaben suffered a 5-0 league defeat to Abbey Vale at Whitehills Park in their final home fixture of the season.
