Vale sign eight

ABBEY Vale’s squad for next season’s South of Scotland campaign is starting to take shape.

The New Abbey outfit announced that Mitchell Black, Jerzy Grzebieniak, Josh McVinnie, Sam Hughes, Lewis McKenna, Max Hughes and last season’s top goalscorer Robbie Simpson have all agreed to stay put at Maryfield.

Veteran Curtiss Wilson has also returned to the club after a spell with Threave Rovers. Also joining Vale is experienced goalkeeper Kieran McCulloch. Going on the other way to Castle Douglas are Braden Bruce, Dylan Bruce and Fraser Glen. Threave will play in the West of Scotland Football League Second Division after securing promotion on the final day of the season. Also, Abbey Vale goalkeeper Taylor Hall will join Dalbeattie Star for next season.

Meanwhile, Lochar Thistle lost the Cree Lodge Cup final 2-1 to Dalbeattie Star.

It was a perfect start for Dalbeattie when Declan Rogerson scooped home from close range.

It took until the 20 minute mark for Thistle to grow into the game and drew level when Rory Copland equalised.

The contest looked to be heading to extra time but Dalbeattie got the all-important winner from a powerful David Taylor header on 88 minutes. The victory means Star successfully retained the Cree Lodge Cup.
