KIRKPATRICK Fleming’s war memorial has been awarded two national awards and high praise from the judges.
The village memorial was given the honours as part of Legion Scotland’s national competition.
It scooped the Best Kept Memorial award and then went on to also get the Champion of Champions award.
The judges were full of praise for it and villagers’ efforts and said in their comments: “Fantastic work by the community, a war memorial fit for its accolade. It just made us smile.
“The different flower holders representing the three different branches of the forces, and they can still improve it for next year.”
The community took to social media to celebrate the news and a village hall spokesperson said: “We must thank a few people. Firstly, Dean Wilde for the bespoke planters, which were all made from recycled unwanted metal items. Thanks to Davie Holt, Stephen Muir and Mick Park for the installation and upkeep of the memorial area and wider community. Thanks also to Jackie Marshall for her expertise with the flower arranging.”
Certificates will be presented to community representatives at this year’s Legion Scotland area conference on July 29 in Cumbernauld.
