Village views on bridge to be canvassed

VIEWS are being sought from the public about reinstating the Cove Footbridge near Kirkpatrick Fleming, which has been closed for four years.

Dumfries and Galloway Council are planning a drop in exhibition and engagement session in the village hall on May 28 to hear from residents.

They will present potential options for re-instating the link between Kirkpatrick Fleming and Irvington and the wider areas of Hollee and Moorend, which was damaged by stormy weather in October 2021, when Annan also lots its bridges.

The footbridge has been shut to the public ever since, but hopes are high it can finally be brought back into use in one way or another.

And at the drop in session, the community will be able to comment on the assessment work undertaken so far.

Urging people to take part, a village hall spokesman said: “We need all the support to help show DG Council we need our communities linked back together with a replacement bridge, which is missed by many from our communities and from the wider community.”

A public survey will also be launched on the day and will run until June 11 for feedback.
