AN ‘urgent’ payout of £40,000 has been given to Tundergarth Kirk Trust for repairs on the parish church.
The National Churches Trust has awarded them a grant of £30,000 to help to pay for urgent repairs to the roof and gutters to make the B-listed church watertight again.
And there’s another £10,000 fabric repair grant from the Wolfson Foundation.
Claire Walker, chief executive of the National Churches Trust, said: “The National Churches Trust is delighted to be able to support Tundergarth Parish Church to enable them to carry out urgent roof and gutter repairs to their beautiful building. Not only will this protect this important heritage, but it will help to keep the church building open and serving local people.”
Thanking both organisations for the ‘vital funding’, kirks trust chair Lori Carnochan said: “Our repair project has been like opening a can of worms, and it seemed like at one stage we were very nearly facing complete closure as we had so much water damage and were struggling to keep the building safe for use.
“The grant funding will make a huge difference to our repair project works, and will allow us to carry out essential repairs, in the correct manner, using the correct materials required for a Grade B listed church. The funding will ensure that we can continue to offer our church as not only a place of worship, for weddings and funerals, but also as an event space for all of the community to use for concerts, a place of education and of course remembrance.”
