MEMBERS of the Annan Common Good Fund sub committee agreed on Wednesday evening that volunteers would be permitted to open and close the gate at the John Bell Playing Field for a trial period of six months.
It comes after nearby residents raised security concerns relating to the car park gate being left permanently unlocked.
Annandale South councillor Sean Marshall said: “I thought the meeting we arranged with residents was very productive, obviously there was a lot of concerns.
“I think the report outlines a way forward. I know the ward officer has put a lot a lot of work in, so I’d like to thank her for getting us to this point.
“I’m glad we’ve found a way (forward) and the volunteer arrangements we’ve put in place. I look forward to the six month trial, and hopefully it will operate to everyone’s satisfaction.”
Ward officer Jaime Nicholson said: “Residents have indicated that they are going to set up a WhatsApp group and that’s how they’re going to communicate.
“There is six to eight residents who are keen to take on or be involved with this pilot scheme, and they will collectively take on that between themselves. We will support them as well.”
