Walking football coming to Moffat

A NEW walking football scheme will launch in Moffat next week.

Over the winter months football lovers Bob McGoran and David Little decided to start up a walking football group and the first session will take place on Tuesday, March 3, at Moffat’s Park Circle Playing Field MUGA at 7 pm.

The group hope to interest anyone over the age of 50 in the region to take part in the free taster session.

Member Bob Opray said: “All men and women 50 or over will be most welcome. This is the first time the scheme has been tried in Moffat so we’re excited to see how much interest we can get. “Hopefully we can get some locals kids along too to see what us old fogey’s can do.”

Bob also stated that anyone from Lockerbie, Lochmaben or the surrounding area are more than welcome to join.

He added: “We were unaware of a similar walking football scheme in Lochmaben but were sorry to hear that their first attempt to set up a group had not been successful. “Hopefully people can come along and join us.”

The scheme is a nationwide success and is popular in Dumfries and Annan with many members highlighting the sessions helps maintain an active lifestyle and offers social benefits.
