Warm welcome for one reverend and her dog

ANNANDALE’S newest Reverend has ‘hit the ground running’ following her official welcome last week.

Reverend Lynn Brady has been welcomed with open arms as she takes up post at Gretna Old, St Andrew’s Gretna, Half Morton, Hoddom, Kirtle, Eaglesfield and Middlebie parishes.

She trained at New College Edinburgh and completed her post graduate diploma in Aberdeen. She was then ordained into the ministry in Orkney on May 29 1996.

Now settled in Ecclefechan with her dog Mia, Reverend Brady made her official introduction to parishioners at a service at St Andrew’s Gretna last Thursday and is looking forward to getting to know them all better over the course of her five-year appointment.

She said yesterday: “It’s a great privilege to be in this job, it does have it moments like any job. Being here will be a bit different than my last posting in the Borders because there are lots of small communities here and I’m looking forward to being here and getting to know them.”

And she revealed parishioners will be joined by her special canine companion, saying: “Mia will be at each service with me, she lost her last owners and so she likes to come everywhere with me. She’s very well behaved and likes to sit beside people in the congregation during service.

“It’s going to be one big listening exercise getting to know the parishioners and the wider community, I’m actually looking for a new walking football team to join and I’m hoping to get in touch with the schools when they’ve settled back in to introduce myself, but so far we’ve been made to feel very very welcome.”
