What a waste!

HOUSEHOLDS in Dumfries and Galloway generated 79,805 tonnes of waste last year.

And while 26 per cent of it was recycled, 31,975 tonnes (40 per cent) went to landfill in 2016.
Across the whole of Scotland, there was an increase in waste with 2.5 million tonnes generated, of which 45.3 per cent went to landfill.
Materials recycled included glass, cardboard, paper, minerals, metals and wood.
The figures were published by SEPA and the full report can be viewed at www.sepa.org.uk/environment/waste
